Thank you for fast shipping, the doll is in perfect condition. I collect Barbies and my sister had this doll as an original, had given it to me and wanted it back when we grew up. Thank you for giving me a replacement. This was my birthday gift this year. She looks better than our original.

I owned the 35th Anniversary reproduction of Barbie #1. If you owned the previous doll released in 1994, you might want to consider buying this doll as well. Its actually an improvement! One of the problems I had with the 1994 doll was the hair. The 2009 repro is far superior. The 1994 doll had a shade of blonde that was a bit too mousy. This doll has just the right blonde shade more faithful to the original. The hair style on this one, though the hairline is a little low, is more faithful to the original as it has kinky bangs as opposed to the "bobbed" bangs of the original repro. Another big improvement is the doll stand. This doll has holes in the bottom of the feet (like the original dolls) that allow it to sit on the spokes of the stand. The 1994 doll had a clumsy doll stand that squeezes around the waist. This 50th anniversary doll's stand is much user friendly, as the original doll's stand.
Deficits of this version? The adhesive used for holding up the bathing suite is a real minus! If you were to take off the bathing suit, you'd have to tear through the adhesive holding it to the doll. This is a really badly thought out detail. The 1994 reproduction used clear plastic straps to keep the suit on the doll. If you don't mind the adhesive sticking to her boobs if you chose to put on the accompanying outfit, then this might not be a big deal. This review just finds it needless. Also, why does Mattel have to staple the head to the box? Its incredibly difficult to cut the plastic staples the way they are attached to head. This really seems like a pointless bit of packing and worse...you have staples sticking from under her hair once you cut it away.
Bottom line. If you want a more affordable version of Barbie #1, this is your gal. Unfortunately, Mattel sees fit to package this doll in such a way that you are forced to deal with staples in the head and adhesive on the boobs. But then, Barbie was a modern gal so maybe she doesn't mind it so much.

When I unwrapped my Christmas present and found the 50th anniversary Barbie doll, I was thrilled. I opened the box and for a few moments, was in a state of bliss. But then I noticed a few drawbacks.
First, Her swimsuit is glued to her chest. Huh?! Well, there goes the hope of her modeling the Solo in the SPotlight dress. Oh, well. I try to put the gloves on. Nope, that won't work either! They are too small to be worn by any of my dolls. Hmm. Okay, well, at least she can wear the necklace. I pick it up, and what do I find... no strap. No elastic. No little snap-thing. No stretching, no spaces, no way to make her wear it. It's a totally useless ring of beads.
I put the black dress on my Fashionista Girly doll, and it looks fabulous. She suits it perfectly, especially when you add the pink scarf and microphone.
I like the doll, though. She is pretty, but her forehead is too low to be exact. Her hair isn't quite the right color, and her makeup isn't perfect, but she is still cute. She is heavier and sturdier than most modern dolls. Her microphone is great- metal and adjustable in height. I love the holes in her feet that make displaying her easy. I wish all collector dolls were that way, instead of having a thick plastic pole to support them, which shows badly and doesn't even hold them up right.
Overall, I think she is a great doll and I really love her-but she's not for younger girls. She's a disply doll, not for rough play.

I did not buy this "toy" for fun, or for educational value, or durability. I bought it to replace my original Barbie doll I had when I was 9 (in 1959) that disappeared when my mother started letting the grandkids play with it. I absolutely love it. This is the Barbie I remember.
Much as I would love to change her clothes and build the wardrobe I had for my original Barbie, I think I will just keep her in the box as she is and no one else will touch her.
Absolutely LOVE this doll!

I am very happy with my reproduction Barbie purchase. I am so happy they came out with these dolls again. I am new to collecting and I have this love for the real vintage ones but my pocket book says something else. This doll is just amazing in detail. I just adore the black and white bathing suit. The sunglasses. Oh my what fun. I have not taken the clothing out of the box yet but I will. I play with my Barbies and make them clothes. You will be really happy with this doll in person. She is very well made and has very pretty features.
